Some facts about Calicut
- The City is about 200 km north of Cochin and 230 km south of Mangalore. It is sandwiched between Arabian sea and the Western Ghats (Sahyadri hills). The neighboring districts are Kannur on north, Malappuram on south, and Wayanad on east.
- Climate: Sultry summers, pleasant winters and long rainy season from June to October.
- The culture, cuisine and life in general is a medley of all the major religious faiths - the Hindus, Muslims, and Christians.

- Kallai, just 2 km south of Calicut city, was once the center of world's second largest timber trade. Today, though business does take place, it is passing through difficult a phase and Kallai is just a shadow of its past.
- Beypore, the port town of Calicut is about 10 km from the city, was known for building huge pathemaris (catamaran) which was very popular among trading Arabs. Beypore is still famous for its country crafts called ‘Uru’ built by the traditional shipbuilders known as khalasis.
- The unexplored backwaters of Calicut hold great promises of enchanting holiday options. Elathur, the Canolly Canal and the Kallai river are favorite haunts for boating. Kadalundi, with its beautiful bird sanctuary is a charming site. Korapuzha, the venue of the Korapuzha Jalotsavam is fast becoming a popular water sport destination.
- Calicut Airport, at Karipur, is 23 km south of the city. It operates Indian Airlines flights to Mumbai, Chennai and Sharjah in the Middle East.
